Drawing and painting come naturally to me…like
eating or sleeping…like breathing! Even at a very young age
I showed a talent for drawingand painting and would set myself
the
challenge of copying anything I could get my hands on - illustrations
in books, random bits and pieces, portraits of my teachers, masterpieces
by great artists. The more difficult the challenge, the harder
I worked and with even greater enthusiasm. I would be so happy
when I managed to match just the rightshade of colour to a
particular painting. It
proved to be excellent practice for my worktoday.
After graduating with a diploma as a Maestro d'Arte I completed
the course in Theatrical Stage Design at the Belli Arti Academy
in Rome, graduating in 1991 with the highest marks possible
(to my great satisfaction!) However, my real training began
after leaving college. I worked with painters and interior
decorators and also at a stage design workshop
for some time. It was there that I had the honour of meeting
some great stage painters who proved to be my best teachers
and from whom I learnt so much - faux marbling effects, how
to prepare canvases for backdrops and various painting techniques.
As a decorator I then collaborated on murals for some of the
most well known discotheques in Rome such as Piper, Alien
and Gilda and later on was lucky enough to meet the theatrical
designer Alessandro Chiti - I was his assistant on many productions
for a long while. I was immediately won over by the magical
world of theatre. I worked extremely hard and
travelled all over Italy working in some of its most beautiful
and impressive theatres as well as the smallest and most uncomfortable…in
short, I worked my way up…one step at a
time until I was finally able to work under my own name! Painting,
however, was still my real vocation, and so I decided to bring
the magical charm of theatre and its scenes directly into
people's homes - as paintings, that would last through time.
Decorating a home, be it a whole wall or a small panel, is
very important to me and goes beyond the merely economical
or
commercial. The most important thing for me is to bring pleasure
to the people who have a piece of my work in their homes…their
delight is my biggest reward!
